Real Estate Development and Land Use Law

Stone Mattheis Xenopoulos & Brew, PC represents real estate developers and other stakeholders in zoning, land use and complex permitting and approval matters for residential, commercial and mixed-use projects. We assist clients in meeting the requirements for permit compliance, site development approvals, re-zonings, special exceptions, adequate public facilities and variances. We also represent clients in contract negotiation and drafting. This practice includes:

  • Consulting services to assist developers in subdivision and site plan submissions and the development approval process
  • Negotiating and drafting of purchase and sale agreements, developer agreements, easements, special taxing districts, and venture formation
  • Identifying creative solutions to secure allocations for public schools, roads, stormwater and utilities, and for satisfying environmental permitting constraints
  • Interaction and negotiation with Federal, State and local governmental agencies and elected officials

For many years, attorneys in the firm have served as adjunct faculty members in the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Urban Studies and Planning Program, teaching urban planning and zoning law.
